Daesan Literary Awards for College Students

The Daesan Literary Award for College Students was initiated to stimulate literary activities across university campuses and to uncover promising new writers. In 2012, works written by students attending universities in Korea or abroad were collected in six categories?poetry, fiction, drama, screenplay, criticism, and children¡¯s literature?yielding a total of 283 applicants in poetry, 334 in fiction, 74 in drama, 26 in screenplays, 10 in criticism, and 39 in children¡¯s literature. A total of 766 students submitted their work. Committee members were selected for each category and conducted a screening process. Winners included the following: Kwon Jiyeon (freshman at Seoul Arts College) in the poetry category, Chang Huitae (junior at Kwangju University) in the fiction category, Son Yumi (junior at Dongduk Women¡¯s University) in the drama category, Kim Sunwoo (senior at Dong-A University) in the criticism category, Lee Hosun (freshman at Seoul Arts University) in the screenplay category, and Chung Sumin (junior at Soongsil University) in the children¡¯s literature category. Winners received 5 million KRW and an opportunity to go on a literary tour overseas. The award ceremony was held in a seminar room at the Kyobo Building on January 10, 2013. The literary tour took place from January 23 to February 2, and it provided a valuable experience for the winners to expand their literary horizons by participating in group literary programs in Japan, France, and England.
