Grants for the Translation, Research and Publication of Korean Literary Works

HISTORY

2013
With the aim of introducing Korean literature to foreign readers and raising its international profile, the Foundation has been supporting translation, research and publication projects.
After consolidating several grants into the current one, the Foundation has accepted applications in any language in the following categories: Translation (Publication) Grant, Research (Publication) Grant, and Publication Grant. Grants range from 5 million KRW to 15 million KRW depending on the category. In 2013, a total of 64 projects were submitted, and the judging panel comprised of one or two translators and foreign literary specialists evaluated the submissions in each category. As a result, twenty two projects in seven languages were selected: 5 in English, 4 in French, 3 in German, 3 in Spanish, 3 in Japanese, 3 in Chinese, and 1 in Arabic. Sorted by the category, eighteen works belonged to the Translation (Publication) Grant, two to the Research (Publication) Grant, and two to the Publication Grant. The total prize money was 270 million KRW. The award ceremony was held on August 23 in the Convention Hall at the Kyobo Building in Gwanghwamun, central Seoul. In 2013, twelve translations funded by the Foundation were published overseas: The Clown and two others in English; Je suis un écrivain fantôme and two others in French; 真昼ªÎãÊàÊ and two others in Japanese; and the first volume of El maricón triste in Spanish.
