Grants for the Translation, Research and Publication of Korean Literary Works

With the aim of introducing and promoting the richness of Korean literature to the outside world, the Foundation has been supporting translation, research and publication projects. After consolidating several grants into one collective grant under the name of "Grants for Translation, Research and Publication of Korean Literary Works," the Foundation awards grants to support projects in English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, and other languages. The Foundation receives applications for the following categories: Translation (Publication) Grant, Research (Publication) Grant, and Publication Grant. Selected grantees receive between 5 and 15 million KRW for translation, research, and publication.

In 2012, a total of 71 projects were submitted, and for each language, one or two translators and foreign literary specialists conducted the screening process. As a result, a total of 19 projects were selected. In the Translation (Publication) category, the following were selected: Farewell Valley in English and four other works; Collected Works of Kim Tongin and two other works in French; Meeting My Brother and one other work in German; Chang Kilsan and two other works in Japanese; Himalaya Poetry and one other work in Chinese; four other projects in other languages. In the Research (Publication) category, "Translating Passion: Study on Newspaper and Fiction during the Early Japanese Occupation Period, 1895-1919" and two other research projects were awarded. In the Publication category, Shadow in a Void was selected to be published in French. The total prize money amounted to 280 million KRW. The grant-awarding ceremony was held in the Convention Hall at the Gwanghwamun Kyobo Building on August 24. In 2012, the Foundation funded the publication of 12 books overseas: How In Heaven's Name and one other book in English; Une Feuille noire dans la bouche and six other books in French; íþÐø«Ñ«Ñ and three other books in Japanese; á³ã¼ÚÅ and one other book in Chinese; and one other book in another language.
