Daesan Literary Awards

Candidates for the Daesan Literary Awards included literary works published or performed between August 2010 and July 2011. The initial screening process took place for three months, starting in the beginning of June, and during the final screening process, which transpired for two months beginning in September, the Foundation selected the winning works following review in each genre. The 2011 award winners exemplified the vitality of new writers and the staying power of established writers. Dalja Shinwon in the poetry category for Papers; Chulwoo Im won in the fiction category for Farewell Valley; Chieon Choi won in the drama category for Play of Insanity; Moowoong Yeom won in the criticism category for Literature and Reality of the Era; and in this year¡¯s translation category, Heidi Kang and Sohyun Ahn won for Schwertgesang (Song of the Sword) by Hoon Kim. Similar to the previous year, winners were selected from all five categories. The winners in each category received a plaque, and the prize winner in fiction was awarded 50 million KRW. The winners in the other categories were awarded 30 million KRW. The prize money totaled 170 million KRW. Winning works from the poetry and fiction category will be translated through the Translation Grants 2011, published into one of the major languages through a publishing company of the target language, and introduced to readers. The awards ceremony was held at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 25 at the International Conference Hall in the Korea Press Center.
