    The book describes, in the style of the serial novel, a fable of the urban destitute cast out and made wretched by industrialism of the 70¡¯s. The story unfolds on a family with a dwarfish father, narrated through the eyes of the eldest son Youngsu (chapter one), younger son Youngho (chapter 2), and the daughter Younghee (chapter 3). Various symbolic languages encompass the miserable living and work conditions of the low class pushed to the edges of urbanization. The father, referred to as a ¡®dwarf,¡¯ climbs the chimney to ¡®escape to the moon,¡¯ lamenting of a world where good people cannot survive no matter how hard they work, dies in the end. Commonly credited as a text on the labor and student movement of 1980, this novel has established itself as required reading for 26 years since its first publication in 1978. The book is made even more meaningful published as a commemorative project marking the ten years of Diplomatic relations between Korea and Bulgaria. Due to the similarities between the Korea portrayed, and the process of social reform experienced in Bulgaria, the book is expected to find welcome from native readers.

    This book is responsible for being the turning point in the entry of Korean literature in China: Professor Kim Kwan-Woong of Yabian University narrates the origin of the Classical Korean novel to pre-Modern novel from a diachronic perspective, and has included interpretations on over 200 Classical novels (eg. ¡®Kumoh Myth¡¯) written in Chinese characters. Currently employed as a textbook in over 30 Chinese universities, it retains scholarly value for its comparative literary study to the Classical Chinese novel, and is often utilized in Korean literature research in China.

The fact that the internationally recognized Peking University supervised both translation and publication warrants some influence.

    ùÛÏÐá³àãÙ£îÊÊüßÛ (¡®An Appreciation to Korean Novel Masterpieces¡¯) covers 77 major Korean novellas from the Joseon dynasty to the present-day. Each novella entails three parts: an introduction to the author, a summary, and a reading of the text. Comprised of 370 pages in 1000 first editions, it offers an outline of the Modern novel: Sassinamjung story, records of Imjin War, tale of Hong Gil-Dong, tale of Simchong, and tale of Chunhyang of the Classical novel; Sangroksu, Samdae (three generations), Bukgan Island, Imkkukjung, and Sahachon of the Modern novel; Jang Gil-San, Winter, 1964, Taebek Sanmek, and Gwanchon Essay of the Contemporary novel. The compiler and editor, Professor Choi Woong-Gun of the Yanbian University, took particular care to introduce the overall frame of Korean literature and help understanding. This book, distributed as a primer to over 200 universities in China, plays a leading role as a handbook on Korean literature in China.

    The Korea-Russia private culture exchange organization, ¬±¬¦¬²¬£¬°¬¦ ¬®¬¡¬²¬´¬¡ (president: Lee Hyung Keun) supervised the translation and release of this Russian edition of the comprehensive Korean history book, A New Theory of Korean History, by Yi Ki-Baek. In efforts to overcome Japanese Colonialist views, and instead deliver an accurate historical truth of Korea, this historic text systemizes the links between concrete, social and chronological facts; rather than into the trichotomy of dividing a period into ¡®old-middle-modern,¡¯ or empires, history branches into each human collective movement in society, culture, politics, and economics. The two head Korean translators at the Russia National Broadcasting, Cho Young-Gil and Lee Il-Jin, translated, and Professor Jung Seok-Bae and edited the resulting text. As the first Korean history research treatise in Russia, special care went into the translation for a faithful and clear communication of the author¡¯s perspectives on Korean history.
